Al-Bahath Archiving & Digital Preservation Policy

Policy Statement:

Al-Bahath is committed to the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of all scholarly content published within its volumes. To ensure that research remains permanently discoverable, verifiable, and usable by the global academic community, the journal employs multi-layered digital archiving strategies following the OAIS (Open Archival Information System) model.

Archiving Workflow

 

1.Metadata Generation & Deposit:Immediate upon publication.

Generate standard XML metadata containing Dublin Core and Crossref schemas, assigning a unique DOI to ensure persistent identification and link resolution.

2.Primary Vault Sync:Automated backup.

Store master copies (PDF, XML/HTML, raw supplementary data) in a secure, geo-redundant cloud storage server with automated daily offsite snapshots.

3.Preservation Network Ingestion:Distributed archival.

Deposit publication bundles directly into distributed preservation networks (e.g., PKP Preservation Network, CLOCKSS, or Internet Archive) for decentralized long-term storage.

4.Repository & Indexing Dispatch:Public discovery.

Harvest metadata via OAI-PMH endpoints to update indexers, institutional databases, and academic repositories automatically.

 

Author Self-Archiving Rights

  • Pre-print (Author's Original Manuscript): Authors may deposit pre-print versions in non-commercial servers (e.g., arXiv, SSRN, institutional repositories) at any time.

  • Post-print (Accepted Manuscript): Allowed immediately after acceptance with proper attribution to Al-Bahath.

  • Published Version (Version of Record): Authors can freely distribute and upload the final published PDF to personal websites, research networks (ResearchGate, Academia.edu), and institutional repositories under the Creative Commons (CC BY 4.0) license.

Website Archiving & Contingency Plan

In the event that Al-Bahath ceases publication or the primary portal undergoes technical failure, preserved content will be accessible via:

  1. Third-Party Dark Archives: Automatic trigger of public access via CLOCKSS/LOCKSS network nodes.

  2. Static Snapshotting: Web archives such as the Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) maintain snapshots of journal volumes and issue metadata.
