The Islamic Literature and its  Influence of on Muhammad Iqbal

Abstract

This study explores the profound influence of Islamic literature on the intellectual and poetic legacy of Muhammad Iqbal, one of the most prominent thinkers and poets of the modern Muslim world. Iqbal’s philosophical outlook, poetic style, and reformist vision were deeply rooted in the spiritual, ethical, and cultural heritage of Islam. Drawing upon the Qur’an, Hadith, classical Arabic and Persian poetry, and the works of great Muslim scholars such as Rumi, Al-Ghazali, and Ibn Arabi, Iqbal synthesized traditional Islamic thought with modern philosophical trends. His poetry reflects themes of selfhood (khudi), revival of the Muslim Ummah, and the pursuit of spiritual freedom, all of which highlight his engagement with Islamic literary traditions. By analyzing Iqbal’s works within the framework of Islamic literature, this research demonstrates how his writings not only carried forward the legacy of Islamic thought but also redefined it for contemporary challenges, inspiring both intellectual revival and socio-political reform in the Muslim world
