Study of Arabic and Punjabi Proverbs

Abstract

This study examines proverbs in the Arabic and Punjabi languages and aims to analyze their role in conveying moral and social values, as well as to highlight the similarities and differences between the two cultures through popular proverbs.

The research is based on collecting proverbs from Arabic and Punjabi sources, analyzing their social and cultural meanings, and studying their impact on both societies. The study reveals that proverbs in both languages function as educational and social tools that reflect the experiences of generations and contribute to preserving folk heritage.

This research seeks to explore proverbs in Arabic and Punjabi in terms of meaning, usage, and linguistic and cultural origins. The researcher concludes that proverbs reflect the wisdom of nations and their historical experiences, and that there is significant similarity between Arabic and Punjabi proverbs in meaning, even if their verbal formulations differ.

A selected group of proverbs was analyzed and compared in both languages, with a focus on word structure and their linguistic and social connotations. The study presents a comparative analysis of Arabic and Punjabi proverbs, highlighting similarities and differences in linguistic construction, meaning, and social and cultural context. It also shows that proverbs in both languages embody societal values and practical wisdom, despite differences in expression and wording. Furthermore, many Punjabi proverbs share the same core ideas as their Arabic counterparts.
