Contribution of Artificial Intelligence in Detecting Translation Errors in the Meanings of the Holy Qur’an

This study examines the growing role of artificial intelligence system in detecting translation errors in the meanings of the Holy Qur’an, focusing on the sixteenth part (Surahs: Al-Kahaf, Maryam, Ta-Ha) as an applied model. The study aims to answer a key question: Can artificial intelligence systems effectively contribute to identifying and correcting translation errors in other than Arabic Languages ,translations of the Holy Quran? .The study relied on a comparative analysis method of translation samples, including three approved human translations of the meanings of Holy Qur’an by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall, Abdullah Yusuf Ali and two translations produced by artificial intelligence systems (ChatGPT, Google Translate). The translation errors were analyzed according to the criteria of grammatical errors, semantic errors, errors in conveying legal/shariah terms, and errors in handling verbal similarities.
AI systems excelled in ultra-fast processing speed in detecting translation errors compared to manual human review, as well as the ability to process massive texts and consistency in detecting recurring errors across multiple verses. The main limitations included difficulty in detecting deep contextual errors that require purposive understanding, weakness in detecting errors related to rhetorical miracles and Quranic metaphors, and inability to distinguish between "acceptable" and "unacceptable" errors in light of valid interpretive differences.
The study confirms that AI can be a powerful assistive tool in detecting superficial translation errors, but it remains incapable of detecting subtle errors that require deep interpretative and spiritual understanding
