Abstract

This study examines the semantic significance of the word "al-Nās" (people) in the nominal sentence of the Holy Qur’an, with particular focus on its occurrence as the subject (mubtadaʾ) and the predicate (khabar). It aims to demonstrate how the grammatical position of the word contributes to the intended Qur’anic meaning and how its significance varies according to the context of the verses, whether referring to all humanity or to a specific group. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach by examining the Qur’anic verses in which the word al-Nās occurs as the subject or the predicate. These verses are analyzed from grammatical, semantic, and exegetical perspectives in the light of the opinions of classical grammarians and Qur’anic commentators.

The study concludes that the occurrence of al-Nās in the nominal sentence emphasizes meanings of permanence, certainty, and stability, while its semantic scope is determined by the Qur’anic context. It further highlights that integrating grammatical analysis with Qur’anic exegesis provides a deeper understanding of the meanings of the verses and reflects the linguistic and rhetorical excellence of the Holy Qur’an.
